Minimally Invasive Surgeries

At Mission Ob/ Gyn we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of medicine and offer our patients different options for surgical procedures. Less invasive procedures reduce hospital stays, have quicker recovery times as well as minimize scarring, compared to traditional procedures. Our physicians have been performing these surgeries for many years and they are highly skilled and experienced in these types of procedures.

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy- This minimally invasive procedure involves inserting a lighted telescope and small surgical instruments through 3-4 tiny incisions in the abdomen to remove the uterus. A normal hospital stay is usually one day because there is less pain and blood loss involved.

TYPES OF HYSTERECTOMY:

Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH)- This type of hysterectomy removes the uterus and/or ovaries but preserves the cervix. Many gynecologists feel that leaving the cervix in place is important to maintain good pelvic floor support. Some research suggests that the cervix may play a role in sexual arousal and lubrication.

Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH)- If your cervix needs to be removed (in cases of abnormal pap smears or precancerous conditions) it can be done in a similar fashion to LSH.

Laparoscopic Assited Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH)- Your physician may perform part of the hysterectomy through the laparoscope and complete the procedure vaginally. Vaginal repair of cystocoele and rectocoele can performed at the same time.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy- Uterine fibroids can be removed through the laparoscope when a patient desires to preserve her uterus. Large tumors are reduced during surgery with a special instrument called a Morcellator.

Laparoscopic Ovarian Cystectomy -OR- Oophrectomy- Ovarian cysts and/or ovaries can be removed through the laparoscope giving you the benefits of an outpatient procedure with little discomfort and recovery time. Common causes of cysts are endometriosis, dermoid tumors and benign ovarian cysts.

Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation- This procedure involves cutting, tying or burning the tubes as a form of permanent birth control.ne of our services is to provide comprehensive hormone level testing.

Laparoscopic Salpingectomy -OR- Salpingostomy- This procedure is used to treat tubal pregnancies. The fallopian tube can be preserved or removed if it is damaged.
